Roma

2018, Dir. Alfonso Cuarón

Winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and three Academy Awards, including Best Director. Set in politically-heated 1970s Mexico City, it follows Cleo, a live-in domestic worker, through a turbulent year with the middle-class family she cares for.

The Dark Horse

2014, Dir. James Napier Robertson

A celebrated New Zealand drama anchored by Cliff Curtis’s career-defining lead performance. Based on a true story, it follows Genesis Potini, a Māori chess master living with bipolar disorder, who starts a chess club to give local kids in Gisborne something to believe in.

Godland

A Cannes selection, filmed on 35mm across harsh Icelandic landscape. In the late 1800s, a young Danish priest travels to a remote corner of Iceland to build a church and photograph its people, the journey testing both his faith and his body.

Force Majeure

Winner of the Jury Prize in Un Certain Regard at Cannes, and the film that made Östlund an international name. A family on a ski holiday in the French Alps is shaken by a close call with an avalanche, and one parent’s split-second reaction begins to unravel the marriage.

The Last Black Man in San Francisco

Joe Talbot’s dreamlike debut won the Directing Award at Sundance, and is carried by Emile Mosseri’s lush, yearning score. Jimmie Fails, with his best friend Mont, sets out to reclaim the Victorian house his grandfather built in a rapidly gentrifying San Francisco.

Robot Dreams
